Arsenic
and Manganese Reduction without Treatment
Well conditions:
This large production well had a flowrate of 2,900 gpm
with arsenic concentrations of 12 ppb and manganese concentrations
of 40 ppb
Analysis:
A depth specific analysis (which is a combination of spinner
and water quality analysis) showed higher arsenic and manganese
concentration in the upper zones. This upper zones produced
about 30% of the water.
Recommendations:
Closing of upper zones through packer installations
Results:
Arsenic and manganese concentrations were reduced below MCL
and secondary MCL. Arsenic was reduced from about 12 to 7.5
ppb and manganese improved slightly. This measure allowed
to keep the well in operations without expensive wellhead
treatment. restrictions.
Calculated
reductions:

Observed:
Long term arsenic reduction is 35% to a concentration
of about 7.5 ppb
